H. E. Fatima Haram ACYL

Commissioner for Trade and Industry, African Union Commission

H. E. Mrs. Fatima Haram Acyl has served as Commissioner for Trade and Industry at the African Union Commission since her election in 2012. As Commissioner, H.E. Mrs. Acyl has championed key elements of Agenda 2063, including preparing for the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) and establishing the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) as an AUC institution. She is steadfastly committed to Africa’s structural transformation and has worked to advance trade, industry, and responsible mineral resource development as fundamental drivers of that transformation.


Before joining the Commission, Commissioner Acyl acquired a wide range of dynamic public and private sector experience. She served as: Deputy Director General of the Agricultural Bank of Chad; Director of Finance and Administration at the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS); Audit Manager at CroweChizek and Company LLC, USA; and Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers, USA. Commissioner Acyl has an MBA in Finance, with Honors, from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA and a BS in Business Administration (Operational Research) from the University of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. She is fluent in English, French, and Arabic.
