Enabling Environment Director/Team Leader, Southern Africa Trade Hub

George Makore is a development consultant with over 25 years’ experience working mostly in the SADC region on programs aimed at enhancing regional integration and strengthening the region’s competitiveness. Since July 2012, George Makore has been Enabling Environment Director/Team Leader for the USAID-funded Southern Africa Trade Hub project managed by AECOM based in Gaborone, Botswana operating in eight SADC countries. His work involves working closely with SADC Secretariat particularly the Directorate of Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment, SADC Member States governments and their Standards Development Organizations as well as Investment Promotion Agencies in cooperation with other regional organizations as well as international development agencies to identify, develop and implement technical assistance and capacity building programs on standards, technical regulations, conformity assessments, investment climate reforms, gender mainstreaming and environmental compliance. This includes ensuring that all gender based constraints are addressed through the promotion of women’s equitable participation in the project activities. From January 2011 – July 2012, George Makore was an Executive Consultant and Partner at Kaizen Business Consultancy. He joined Kaizen Business Consultancy from the International Development Law Organization in Rome, Italy, where he had been an Aid for Trade Communications Consultant.
