The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development explicitly recognise the role of trade in advancing the SDGs. ICTSD spearheads a programme on inclusive economic transformation aimed at developing innovative thinking and supporting multi-stakeholder dialogues on the role of trade and investment-related policy and agreements in achieving sustainable development, particularly in LDCs and LICs in relation to SDG 1 (ending poverty); SDG 5 (gender equality); SDG 8 (inclusive economic growth); and SDG 10 (reducing inequality between and within countries).

Under the TSDS Inclusion and Development stream, ICTSD and Knowledge Partners offer a platform for insightful discussions on critical areas shaping the participation of least developed countries (LDCs) and low income countries (LICs) in international trade and investment. Drawing in participants from government, business and civil society, the sessions will discuss how trade policies and the multilateral trade system, trade in services, agricultural trade, the digital economy, quality infrastructure, and private sustainability standards can contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in general, and gender equity and SMEs in particular.
